The old saying " when you pay peanuts you get monkeys " implies that if you pay low wages you will get low quality work. If you pay more, you will get a better bang for your buck.
It is interesting if applied to Politicians. These days, it doesn't seem to ring true as, around the world, we pay huge amounts of money to Politicians and seemingly still get monkeys.
The idea of being a Politician is very attractive to many. Not because they have a desire to serve their community and fellow Citizen, but because it is a lucrative career path that brings wealth and perks way beyond what could be achieved in private enterprise or a " normal " job.
As the incomes of these Politicians sky rocket, the quality of their work seems to be plummet. Their humility plummets as their arrogance and hubris rise.
The noble term " public service " is increasingly sounding like a joke. And a bad one at that. Too often, a Politician can put in a good word for a company, a person; use a wink and a nod and, as Monty Python put it " wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more... "
This is why Trump is so universally hated by the ruling establishment. He doesn't play their game.
As Nicolas Cataldo wrote in his piece back in 2016
" The reason the establishment is diametrically opposed to a Trump presidency is because they know that they will not be able to pay him to act against the interests of the American people. They know that the next four years will be a total waste of time for them because they won’t be able to bribe him to act in their favor or do whatever they want. ......... He is the public defender the American people need at a time like today. A tireless advocate, no matter how crass the aristocrats of polite society think he is, or no matter what they say about him not following the rules they set up to lord over the paupers. "
Throughout the Western World, we have seen the STATESMEN brought to the brink of extinction. We are governed by many leaders and lackeys who are in it for themselves. They are career POLITICIANS. No matter which country you call home, there is evidence of Government apathy and smug disregard for anything that is for the good of the country and its people. All so many of them are concerned about is feathering their own nests and increasing their chances of re election.
As so many of us get ready to cast our votes in upcoming elections, we must look to each candidate and consider the words of John F Kennedy:
" It is not what your Country can do for you but what you can do for your Country. "
Perhaps it is up to us to look at our Representatives and consider how much they have done for us ( as fellow citizens ) and how much they have done for themselves.
I recently watched a short video about Swedish Politicians.
When I watched this I had mixed feelings. The idea that Politicians are paid a moderate wage and are treated as " normal " citizens is intriguing. I will leave it to you to decide.
That the Prime Minister of Australia is on a higher salary than the President of the United States is laughable. That the Prime Minister of New Zealand is not far behind is ridiculous. That the Premier of Victoria receives more than the President of the United States is bordering on obscene. Even the Premier of Queensland receives more than the leaders of China, India and Russia combined this year.
And that doesn't take into account how much some Politicians get for winking, nodding, nudging and say no more....
Our vote has never been more important.
It must be cast wisely if we are to stop the complete disintegration of our Civilisations.
If something is not done to reverse this corruption and self enrichment by our Politicians, we will descend into a modern form of feudalism.
